REFERRALS

Medicare requires that you provide a current referral when you see a specialist in order to receive a rebate for your consultation. Obtaining a referral is your responsibility and must be obtained prior to the consultation. A referral obtained from a GP or optometrist lasts 12 months and a referral from a specialist doctor lasts 3 months.

WHAT TO BRING

Health fund/Medicare Card/DVA card.
Referral from GP, Medical Specialist or Optometrist.
Previous prescriptions and current spectacles.
List of current medications.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Please allow approximately 1.5 hours for your appointment. You will be seen by the orthoptist who will conduct preliminary tests before you see the ophthalmologist. It may be necessary to dilate your pupils. This means that your vision may be blurred for 2-3 hours and it is therefore recommended that you do not drive

PATIENT ACCOUNTS

You will be charged a consultation fee and also a fee for any tests or treatments that you might need on the day of your appointment. Payment is expected on the day of your consultation. You can pay by cash, cheque or credit card (Visa or Mastercard), EFTPOS is also available. If you have any questions regarding this please ask the staff.
